
Hypochlorous acid (HOCL) is considered the most efficacious chlorine based disinfectant at one’s disposal. It effectively reacts with microbial cell wall and easily perforates it owing to its zero charge and having relatively lower molecular weight. It oxidizes the internal microbial cellular organic matter, destroying them completely and gets diffused rapidly compared to hypochlorite ions which are negatively charged and are unable to penetrate the cell walls.
